On Nov 10th, 11th 2022, Global Day is held at Global Lounge in Yonsei University. The theme of the year was Japan, so any participants can relish the rich culture of Japan. There are a lot of programs to experience Japanese culture such as wearing the beautiful Kimono, which is traditional Japanese clothes, playing traditional Japanese games, watching Japanese movies, and trying Japanese street food.
The first program was ‘Tanabata’. Japanese have believed that if you write your wish on paper and hang it on the tree, the tree make a wish come true for you. Participants write their wish on paper about health, achievements, traveling, wealth, and so on. They hung the paper on the tree using red ribbon.
There was a traditional fishing program, Goldfish scooping (Kingyo-sukui). It is a traditional Japanese game in which a player scoops goldfish with a paper scooper. In this program, plastic balls are used instead of real goldfish. Japanese summer festivals commonly have a stall for this activity. The basic rule is that the player scoops goldfish from a small pool with a thin paper scooper which can tears easily. If the player successfully scoops more than 10 goldfish, a small present is given to the player.
The next program was about trying Kimono, traditional Japanese clothes. It was difficult to dress alone to look nice, so Japanese friends helped the participants get dressed well. There was also a photo spot with Japanese character, Kaonashi, so they took photos standing next to the character.
There was a traditional game called ‘Wanage’. The rule was simple, which was a game in which a hook is thrown and caught on a stick. Players participated in the game without any burden and competed happily.
Participants also made their own souvenirs which contains cute Japanese characters like Crayon Shinchan, Totoro, and Kaonashi. Also, they were able to try Japanese traditional street food Takoyaki, and some snacks. It was a great opportunity to experience Japan by Yonsei Global.
